Not sure if this is a bug or not, but a friend and I noticed that our defense was 5 less than what is should be.

For example:
Ring (18)
Armor (171)
Speed (271)
Total: 460

My defense is only 455. Where did the other 5 go?

That is because you are making the wrong assumption how defense adds up. Without equipment, base defense = speed - 5. If create a new character you will notice this.
