Purple Equipment, Levels 5 through 40

Is there really any point in having level 5 through level 40 purple equipment in the auction?
I can understand why the low level purple equipment is available in the gift boxes, but they shouldn't even be anywhere else. The blue equipment for newer and 'not yet strong enough' people is plenty, and they are more cost effective for those players. I can't think of any newer players, who have a hard enough time getting credits as it is, willing to spend 3 times as much on a purple for the stats that they are looking for on a blue.
