This appears to be a one off event (at least I haven't replicated it yet). At the very end of a battle (king solomons mines - insane), just as I should have gotten the victory window, the app crashed with the data error message, restart app. Upon restart, I had lost the energy from the battle but did not get the ~90k gold reward. This happened at approx 19:18 server time. Prior to the 4.0.1 update, whenever I crashed in battle, I was always restored to the beginning of the last stage I was in combat in.

Hi SeasDiver, thanks for the report. Data error often occurs when the data on the player's client doesn't match with those on our server because of unstable network connection, etc. The game usually can restore your battle progress, but it sometimes cannot due to various reasons such as there are utility apps on the device which automatically clears the game cache or other unknown causes.
