You can get a pet back if you bump into one again in the marsh, but it may take a while (or it might not). No point of restarting the game because it will just take as long to get a cat. Also there are plenty of other allies along the way so you might not want to go through the trouble of going back for the cat.
Are any more of the allies cats besides the kitten? Like tigers or lions or anything? I like cats. I've been through the marsh again a few times and I'm not getting a kitten.

Cat is the only feline in the game. Keep searching. It might take a while, but you will find him again.
Thanks for the encouragement. I WAS about to give up. It took about eight or nine rounds of energy, but I finally found another one. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I found him (orange cats are nearly always male) in Area 2, in case anyone else wants to get theirs back.
i am not so much worried about getting an ally back, and i am betting i would have to train him/her/it all over again, as whether or not to accept new allies as they are offered. are they offered in increasing value/strength or randomly? if i build one up in levels is it better to keep it and keep building or trade up again and again? any ideas?
